A Brief History of Tyryn

Tyryn is the third planet from the sun, found in the goldilocks zone between Bindoff and Usane. It has ample oceans, and temperate enough weather on most of its landmasses to support a substantial native population.  It has one moon, named Lurelat, which contains its own sparse population, none of which is native. There are three historical events you should know in order to sufficiently understand the geopolitical environment which drives our story.

Around one thousand years ago, there was a dramatic era of meteor showers raining down on Tyryn. A meteor had struck Bindoff, breaking off huge chunks of earth, and sending them careening into space. Most of them were destroyed when exiting one atmosphere, or entering another, but still many of these rocks ultimately landed on Tyryn. These rocks had peculiar, haunting qualities. They emanated with a strange energy, and were capable of evoking strong emotions. Tyryn mysticism began around the notion of studying, cherishing, and harnessing these stones.

Around four hundred years ago, aliens arrived from outside the solar system, with tremendously advanced technology. They were peaceful, and said to have arrived from the Mastellan Cluster, having developed wormhole technology for astral travel. They wished to establish harvesting operations on the nearby gas planet of Usane, and to trade their technology for food and amenities. Throughout the early phases of this agreement, the Mastellan pilgrims gained a curiosity for the magic stones, and traded for them aggressively. The Tyrynites had no shortage, and were happy to oblige the trade offers. Slowly, however, their remaining stones began to emote sorrow, and they regretted trading them so eagerly. The mystics and holy people of Tyryn began gathering as many stones as they could find, to hide and protect. A secret society of wizards eventually became the only people who were aware of the presence and power of the stones, their mission was to prevent the advancement of sorrow.  They founded what would ultimately be known as the Church of Tyryn.

Using the newfound Mastellan Drive technology, explorers from the newfound Tyryn-Mastellan alliance started to chart their region of the galaxy, and were able to make contact with a few other inhabited systems relatively close to Tyryn. Being the centerpoint of these civilizations, Tyryn itself naturally grew into a crossroads of sorts. Finding itself at the center of a complex network alien commerce, Tyryn veered its society away from squabbling chiefdoms to that of a Merchant Republic, eventually establishing a diplomatic ambassador forum, and later being the seat of the Assembly of the Internation of Planets.

The IP Assembly on Tyryn

Most of Tyryn found tremendous technological and societal growth in a short period of time, as technologies and resources from all across the galaxy poured in. Some chiefdoms, in particular that of Roahl, found itself isolated due to its undesirable climate, difficult terrain, and distance from more arable nations. As most of Tyryn found new wealth and status, Roahl mostly found its resources being exploited.

And then the Federation arrived…
