Many people are hearing about Manifold TCG for the first time and are getting interested. However, seeing a $300 price point for an Angel set is leaving a lot of people with questions. I’m going to seek to address some of those questions here.
What is an Angel copy?
An Angel copy of the first set, Tyryn Sentinels, is a complete set of Tyryn Sentinels, including locales, dice, and tokens. That means an Angel Copy includes:
- 56 uniquely named hero cards.
- 3 each of 176 uniquely named support cards, for a total of 528 support cards!
- 36 locale cards. These fill the role of lands or energy, exist outside the game, and are created at regular intervals. In long games, each player may find themselves with 10-12 in play.
- 6 ‘Sentinel’ tokens. The only token in Tyryn Sentinels is the set’s namesake, and are combat servos that can be created by game effects.
- 84 Dice. We consider one dice set to as 12 each of the 7 proprietary colored dice that determine most of the card effects in a game, making a total of 84 dice.
Some folks have referred to this as ‘Alpha’, with the awaited mass production being called ‘Beta’. That is not exactly accurate. Angel copies are more like a 1st Edition, since Angel copies of Valshoun Underworlds (set 2) are going to exist as well.
Is it really a TCG if you’re selling complete sets?
It will be. A very small number of Angel copies are being printed (only 250, two dozen or so of which will stay in-house for demonstrations). After that, players will need to wait until the mass production of the game. When that occurs, there will be two products: The introductory box and booster packs.
- The introductory box will contain one deck in each of the four colors, as well as a dice set. It will have a handful of cards that are exclusive to it, not occurring in booster packs.
- Booster packs will be 23 card half-decks with a heroic pool and a couple tokens. Card drop rates in booster packs will be weighted by rarity, and this should result in players being able to trade their uncommons and rares with other players in order to complete their ideal deck. This will dramatically reduce the price point that it takes for an individual to get involved with the game.
When is mass production?
Very soon. The objective behind printing the Angel copies is to create a community so we can demonstrate the quality of the game, and drum up demand. Once enough retailers have indicated their interest, we will begin the process for mass production, which will probably include a Kickstarter campaign. It is our objective to have another product available within 6 months of the release of Angel copies, whether that be mass production, or 1st edition of the second set, Valshoun Underworlds.
