About Farce
Farce is a quick, easy-to-learn word game, intended to be played in those five minute windows between other activities. As it turns out, it also works great as an activity for a full evening! The goal is to be the last player at the table with hidden letters. Each player starts the game by looking at eight letter cards and placing any number of them face-down in front of them, forming a word. The rest of the letters get shuffled back into the main deck.
Starting with the sneakiest player, players go around the table taking turns. On a player’s turn, they take one of the following actions:
- Guess a letter in another player’s word.
- If they do have that letter in their word, they must reveal one of those letters in their word.
- If they do not have that letter in their word, they get to point to one of your face-down letters to reveal.
- Reveal a letter in your own word.
- Accuse another player of having a fake word.
- If you’re right, they must reveal all their letters!
- But if you’re wrong and they do have a real word, YOU must reveal all of your letters.
- Guess another player’s word.
- Like with a fake word, if you’re right, they must reveal their word.
- But if you’re wrong, YOU must reveal your word.
Farce started as a simple idea, played with a set of letter tiles from some other game, at Cascade Con 2017 in Bellingham, Washington. From the first game, in which it had the exact same ruleset as it does today, it was clear that this is an excellent idea.
It took a number of years to go from that idea to a real thing, but I’m over the moon that it’s finally here!
